Frequently asked question - How do I become a member of SDLP via an electronic payment?

Click on the Donate button on our home page and submit a donation of $25 or more.  You can use paypal, or simply click the continue button to enter your credit card information.  If you have a scanner, you can also download the membership application, fill it out, scan it, and email it to treasurer@sdlp.org.  If you don't have a scanner, then you'll still have to mail the form to the office address that is printed on the form.  If you are already a member and would like to check your expiration date or provide us with new contact information, please write an email to membership@sdlp.org or treasurer@sdlp.org and we'll be happy to assist you.  Your membership in the party is very important to us.  The SDLP provides a newsletter service that is mailed to all dues paying members six times per year.  Additionally, we spend whatever we can on voter outreach efforts.  We are planning voter registration booths at upcoming summer festivals and fairs.  Fundraising and voter outreach is an ongoing process and every dollar that we receive helps us advance libertarianism in California.  In 2012, the new proposition 14 rules take effect, so we have to step up our efforts to register more voters between now and the end of 2013!  Thanks for your support!

CA Green Regulatory Machine: Saving the Planet or Killing Jobs? by Richard Rider

Below is a link to a 9 minute professionally produced video from the REASON Foundation that details the fraud and dishonesty underlying the devastating new California laws against diesel engines.  It includes a rigged government agency (the California Air Resources Board a.k.a. CARB), with the story of the bogus PhD that authored the flawed report used as the basis for the new, crippling diesel regs.  It shows that the CARB process ignored solid science that drew different conclusions.  It gives a real world example of the coming destruction of small businesses,.  Finally, it details UCLA's shameful action of firing a tenured professor for providing a noninflammatory, detailed, scientific study debunking the core assumption driving these Draconian new laws.

The next time you hear someone whining about taxpayers underfunding the UC system, share this video with them as another reason to not reward these left wing institutions with taxpayer funding.

Stop the Ban - Rally and March

WHEN: 3/28/2011 - 12:00PM-1:30PM

WHERE:  Starts at - Federal Courthouse, 940 Front St. San Diego CA, 92101

As you know, the San Diego Libertarian Party executive committee voted unanimously to oppose the proposed medical marijuana regulations that would result in the addition of section 141.0614 to the municipal code.  Although there might be some disagreement about whether the ordinance is needed at all there is no disagreement about the fact that these regulations amount to a defacto ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.  The Libertarian Party has always held strong and consistent beliefs regarding the right of individuals to control their own bodies, including but not limited to what medications that they choose to put into them.  State law certainly allows cities and counties to implement reasonable guidelines for the use and distribution of marijuana for medical use.  The following is a list of restrictions under the proposed ordinance, which seem questionable.  For instance, the ordinance requires:   More Stop the Ban - Rally and March »

Press Release: Carl DeMaio will speak at the SDLP annual convention

January 17, 2011: The SDLP has confirmed that Councilman Carl DeMaio, who represents San Diego city council district 5, will speak and answer several questions during the lunch portion of our annual convention on Saturday January 29.  The check in time is 11:30 A.M. and lunch will be from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M.  We encourage attendees to read the Roadmap to Recovery and to prepare a question in advance.  Let us take the initiative to prepare some excellent questions for him.  This is in addition to our other two speakers Adam Summers, who writes for the Reason Foundation, and Mike Seebeck, who is the California Campaign Coordinator for Lee Wrights 2012.

Press Release: San Diego Libertarian Party joins the Coalition to Advance Fiscal Reforms

January 2, 2010: The SDLP executive committee recently voted to join the Coalition to Advance Fiscal Reforms.  This decision follows and is consistent with our previous recommendation to vote “No” on Proposition D.  It is important to understand that joining this movement does not require that we immediately support any specific proposal.  We reserve the right to take a formal position on any future proposal or ballot initiative.  It does mean that we understand the challenges that lie ahead, and that we are committed to providing a libertarian viewpoint as the issues are discussed and/or implemented.  We urge San Diego residents to read the Roadmap to Recovery and to participate in one of the remaining forums that Carl DeMaio will be hosting in the near future.  Information about the next two forums follows.   More Press Release: San Diego Libertarian Party joins the Coalition to Advance Fiscal Reforms »

San Diego Libertarian Party - No On Prop D - Press Conference

Libertarian Supper Club with guest speaker Wes Bertrand

Wes Bertrand will speak about his book, Complete Liberty: The Demise of the State and the Rise of Voluntary America. Wes received a BBA in management (minor in philosophy), BS in psychology, and MA in counseling psychology during the '90s. He encountered the writings of Ayn Rand and Nathaniel Branden in '93, and that same year embraced market anarchism instead of their contradictory political model of "laissez-faire capitalism." Wes' first book The Psychology Of Liberty (download from here: http://www.logicallea...) published in 2000, was a philosophical and psychological outgrowth of that process. Complete Liberty: The Demise of the State and the Rise of Voluntary America was published in 2007 (download from http://www.completeli...) which presents a focused look at our political situation and how it can be resolved.

While Wes has been a member of the NH Free State Project since 2005 (even moved there in '06 and then moved back to SD in '07), he believes its realization remains difficult due to most members not being voluntaryist/agorist (instead seeking the counterproductive political means). He believes root-striking freedom activism can be done wherever one resides; visit http://www.meetup.com... for more information about this process in sunny San Diego.

Currently, Wes works with Kevin Koskella on http://www.healthymin..., their weight loss, nutrition, and mental health and physical fitness site. His personal counseling site is http://www.happinessc....

The Event is FREE! Food checks are all separate – Thank you Elijah’s!

Democratic Socialist/Voluntaryists(market anarchy debate)

On Monday, February 22nd at 7pm, Cafe Libertalia hosted the first debate on this topic of high-level of control over people vs. absolutely zero government and thus a completely free market economy.

This was not the typical political debate that argued over what to do with the stolen loot.  Instead it focused on that basic question -- whether or not 'government' is necessary, appropriate or legitimate.

The two sides are from what is generally considered the fringes of More Democratic Socialist/Voluntaryists(market anarchy debate) »

PRESS RELEASE: SD slapped down for charging fees to collect fees

PRESS RELEASE      PRESS RELEASE      PRESS RELEASE

FOURTH DISTRICT: CASE OF WEISBLAT  v.  CITY OF SAN DIEGO IS REVERSED AND REMANDED.

August 18, 2009, SAN DIEGO -  In a stunning blow to the City of San Diego, and especially the City Attorney's Office, the Fourth District Court of Appeals today unanimously ruled that the City of San Diego may not charge a fee to collect a tax.

In January of 2005 the City of San Diego started charging a $25 "fee" to collect the business tax from every business and rental property owner in the city.   Shortly thereafter Sidney Weisblat and his neighbor, Kenneth Ledgerwood -- two landlords who objected to this fee -- sued to stop this practice.

"Landlords have already been burdened with the Rental Tax.It was ridiculous to also have to pay a FEE just to have the City cash my tax check!" said Weisblat.  More PRESS RELEASE: SD slapped down for charging fees to collect fees »
