Unfinished Business

 Convention report, income & expenses - Bob suggested adding a program with advertising space for next year’s President’s Day weekend convention, i.e. a quarter page ad for $15-20. A budget is needed to show speaker lodging and meals. Group discussion of upcoming candidate deadlines to qualify to be on the 2020 ballot.

 Internal Planning Calendar – The calendar events are posted on Slack.

 Website voter info - The website voter info disc purchase is pending. It would be helpful if we have a plot map of member locations and know how to utilize the info. Discussion on how some members do not provide a valid address, want to give a P.O. Box or do not wish to share their personal address. Pending on how to get a link to voters’ government representatives.

 Database from Registrar of Voters

 New memberships funds received are retained by the State. Renewals are split evenly between the State and the local group.

 Brad Richardson and Bob Fraas to develop renewal notices, welcome, thank you and reminder letters.

New Business

 Membership & Benefits – Bob discussed benefits of membership. If the member pays $1,000 or $5,000, what is their added benefit? Would they receive a discount on the convention dinner or other events? A custom link could be imbedded in the welcome letter for them to use.

 Parliamentary Procedures – Bob shared Chair’s motion procedures, minutes, agenda procedures. Per Don we use Roberts Rules of Order.

Other Business (Announcements) Guest Steve Yanke presented StopMediaBiasNow.com, a website used to fight media bias. It is used as a tool to educate people as most ignore or boycott news programs. The real force against media bias by omission, i.e. reporting only good news and ignoring bad news of liberals, and magnifying bad news and minimizing good news from conservatives is through capitalism and the power of the purse. Advertisers pay for space; they want our attention. If we want change, we go directly to the advertisers.

The StopMediaBias.com website is used to send email petitions to the network stations with greatest numbers of viewers – currently ABC, CBS, and NBC. (CNN a constant on Yahoo News but small in advertiser dollars). ABC/CBS/NBC do a half hour national news broadcast five times a week. Recently their advertisers ran over 550 ads within two weeks. For just one two week period, there were 145 products, 87 manufacturers, and 10 different sponsors. The power of the purse: When you buy a product, you support the advertising. The goal of the site is to take out the giant advertisers. The target is news reports, not programs. Examples of how it works: Targeting the advertisers motivated the removal of Bill O’Reilly. Advertisers were contacted by 34,000 people and Al Jazeera is now off the air in the United States.

Most of the media is controlled by a liberal agenda. All third parties are currently being marginalized because of public opinion control via media. Don noted that the Founding Fathers owned political party newspapers, i.e. 1790 Thomas Jefferson’s Gazette. Only a few of today’s [publications] report in an unbiased manner. With current media, the journalistic integrity is not there.

Steve would appreciate any ideas or support. Don suggested posting StopMediaBiasNow on the SDLP and political party Facebook pages, setting up a search engine optimization to bring site up on more web searches. For more information or if any questions, you can contact Steve at: [email protected] or via the website contact page at stopmediabiasnow.com.

The Libertarian Party of California holds its annual convention on April 5-7, 2019 in Concord, CA at the Concord Crown Plaza. To register or if questions, contact 916-446-1776 ext. 3 or ca.lp.org/convention.

No other public comment at this time.
